Stochastic Multiscale Modeling
We consider different physical and biological systems characterized by stochastic and deterministic governing laws and large disparity in spatio-temporal scales. Both the deterministic and stochastic descriptions may be PDEs or simply particle systems at the molecular level (MD) or at some coarse-grained system (DPD). We review different Langrangian methods to model such problems and we present a rigorous approach to coarse-graining inspired by the Mori-Zwanzig formalism. Examples are drawn from soft matter applications as well as from modeling hematologic disorders, e.g. sickle cell anemia.
